Marty makes it official on Monday

DFL Sen. John Marty will officially announce his campaign for governor on Monday at an event at the State Capitol. His campaign issued a statement saying:

Senator Marty will be making a major announcement regarding his campaign to become Minnesota's next Governor. This will be followed by an informal rally outside, across the street in the lawn of the Capitol.

His campaign manager, Daniel Fanning, said it will be Marty's formal announcement. Marty is one of several DFLers who are either running or mulling a run for governor. DFL Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL Rep. Paul Thissen, former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton, former MN House Minority Leader Matt Entenza, Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner and former DFL Sen. Steve Kelley have all filed paperwork expressing interest.

St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and MN House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher are also being encouraged to run.

Governor Pawlenty, a Republican, has not announced whether he will seek a third term.
