Bachmann: Obama may have “Anti-American views.”

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann was on MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Hardball earlier today. When asked if Barack Obama had anti-American views, she responded “Absolutely. I’m very concerned that he may have anti-American views.”

She also said the people Barack Obama has been associating with are “Anti-American.” She also wants the news media to investigate if any other Democratic members of Congress have “Anti-American views.”

Bachmann also said the media has been avoiding the Barack Obama/Bill Ayres connection.

Watch it here:

  • Bachmann has gone over the edge. This rhetoric reeks of McCarthyism.

  • Don Keedic

    I am STUNNED!

  • Ed

I watched this on TV a couple hours ago; Bachmann looked like an idiot.

  • SMS

The woman went to Oral Roberts University….nuff said. The only one who needs investigating is Bachmann, preferably by a top notch psychiatrist.

  • Mia

Literally, the most frightening thing I’ve EVER seen in my entire lifetime! Are we witnessing a new era of McCarthyism? She actually referred to liberals as “anti-American” and called for an investigation of Congress to search for and root out anti-American elected officials.

Add this to Sarah Palin’s incendiary comments that Obama “pals around with terrorists” and the McCain Campaign’s new robo calls claiming that Obama “worked closely” with a terrorist whose radical group “killed Americans” and you have a recipe for the next great American witch hunt and a call to violence against Obama and his fellow Democrats.

This is very dangerous rhetoric coming out of the Republican Party!!! Every American should study McCarthyism and read the Crucilble TODAY!

Finally, the rest of the country is seeing the Michele Bachmann that the rest of us have known for years. Why does it take the national media to do what has been so obvious to Minnesotans for years? She has been spewing this ugly crap as long as she’s been in public office, yet it has gone mostly unreported by the MSM. Is this enough of a wake-up call?

And as long as Bachmann is talking about character, and who pals around with whom, when is MPR going to report on Bachmann’s good friend and major campaign contributor, ex-con and Tom Petters associate Frank Vennes Jr.? It’s not like it’s ancient history.

  • manu

Buchmann is a moran; same that this woman represnts 6th district.

  • danbrome

Michelle is vile. There should be an investigation if she wins her race, and those who vote for her should be condemned.

    Are you kidding me?

  • Frank

Please elect someone else this November!

  • Mark

    Don’t get mad, get even.

Contribute to her opponent. El Tinklenberg has already received about 50K in donations in the last six hours.

Show Michelle how much you love your country.

  • ICDogg

El Tinklenberg raised at least 90K in online donations last night, mostly from people who had never heard of him (or Bachmann for that matter) before Bachmann’s Hardball appearance.

  • Aaron

She needs to be censured! She took the same oath of office as the man she is calling anti-American. She is not intelligent – at all!

  • chrisch

This was an amazing interview. All Matthews had to do was allow her to speak, and her loathsome views simply bubbled up to the surface for us all to see.

Bachman is a disgrace to American politics. She is calling for new investigations into whether members of Congress are American enough??

And by whose criteria would she wish them judged??

I trust that the citizens of Minnesota – TRUE AMERICANS – will send this woman packing.

She has dishonored all of us with her Fascist stance.

  • Tracy T

I’m in Illinois, right on the IL/WI state line, and I sent money to Mr. Tinklenberg last night after watching this disgrace of an American spew her hate. Hope the good people of Minnesota rise up and kick her butt out of office, maybe send her to Alaska with Palin!

  • David

GOP Rep. Michele Bachmann is the face of American fascism with a creepy Cheshire cat grin.

  • Jeff

Michele Bachmann never said that liberals are anti-American. Chris Matthews was trying to get her to say that, but she never did. She said that if Matthews was so concerned, he should do his own investigation. Remember, Matthews said that Barack Obama gives him a thrill going up his leg. If Michele Bachmann said during this interview that liberals are anti-American, please provide me with the quote.

  • Darlene

I’d like to hear her definition of what qualifies as anti-American. If she deems some of her fellow congressmen to be anti-American, I wonder what she thinks should be done about them. And because this is based on guilt by association, should the people who voted these ‘anti-Americans’ into office be investigated also? She’s scary and she’s an elected representative… who votes for people like this?

Joe McCarthy would be so proud of her. Fortunately, we HAVE come a long way since Joe’s time….unfortunately, some people choose not to evolve.

  • Juanita

Shall we talk about guilt by association? Sarah Palin is married to Todd Palin who was registered as a member of the Alaskan Independence Party in 1995, and as recently as 2005. The Alaskan Independence Party is the party which has at various times promoted the secession of Alaska from the United States, and is also the party which was founded by Joe Vogler in the late 60’s, who has been quoted as saying, “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.” In my perception, secession from our United States is the ultimate anti-American act.

Now, does the connection between Palin and the Alaskan Independence Party seem just a little convoluted? I would say, probably no more nor no less than the connection between an 8-year-old Obama and the acts of a 20-something David Ayres.

How about the guilt by association of Michelle Bachmann and the Vennes/Petters campaign contributions?

And what about the guilt by association of John McCain and the Keating 5? The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The five senators, Alan Cranston (D-CA), Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ), John Glenn (D-OH), John McCain (R-AZ), and Donald W. Riegle (D-MI), were accused of improperly intervening in 1987 on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr., chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which was the target of a regulatory investigation by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board (FHLBB). Lincoln Savings and Loan collapsed in 1989, at a cost of over $3 billion to the federal government. Some 23,000 Lincoln bondholders were defrauded and many elderly investors lost their life savings. The substantial political contributions that Keating had made to each of the senators, totalling $1.3 million, attracted considerable public and media attention.

The Republican campaign is becoming desperate, and therefore is resorting to desperate tactics. Can you say “McCarthyism”?

I’m originally from Connecticut and have been embarressed over Joe Lieberman’s relationships with Bush and McCain but now I’m gonna have to rethink this because at least I don’t live in a state that elected this person who is so full of venom toward her fellow Americans.

  • Jean

Michele Bachman should be voted out immediately.

Please do not vote for Michelle Bachman.

Everytime she opens her mouth, I am ashamed that she is also from Minnesota.

I can not comprehend why anyone would support her that woman’s negative, bizarre remarks. She is off the wall mentally and politically. Her fixed smile does not match with her verbal spouting off.

Let her buy land in Alaska and wave hello to Russia with Palin.

Mr. Tinklenberg — may you win by a landslide!

Dominionists such as those indoctrinated by the likes of Robertson and Falwell and Oral Roberts claim they are Christians. In fact, what they are, are ultra-nationalist, theo-fascists. A christian would worship God and Son, Jesus Christ. These people worship the United States of America (or whatever national identity they claim). This why ANY criticism of the USA is blasphemous to them. A truly free republic is founded upon honest critical watchfulness of the State. This has been all but done away with in the last 12 -15 years. Ms. Bachmann clearly is a Dominionist ideologue since she continually points to people that see flaws (flaws that ARE in fact really there) in the systems in place in the USA and labels them “anti-American. These pseudo-patriots simply will not tolerate any honest critique of the America they think they are creating by stealth and deception and force. Their “God” IS America not the creator in heaven. Once you comprehend this fact it will be clearer to you why they make so much out of ANYONE saying anything critically honest about their GOD: the USA (in its present fascist leaning state of being). Ms. Bachmann is a text-book case of what must be removed from positions of power in our nation in order for a just, free Republic to be established.

“And this business of, for example, a congressman from Minnesota, who’s going around saying, ‘Let’s examine all congressmen to see who is pro-America or not pro-America.’ We have got to stop this kind of nonsense.”
