Run from Congress

MPR reporter Curtis Gilbert talked with U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., today about Minnesota's congressional races. Cole is the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee that works to elect more Republicans to the House of Representatives.

And in order to do that, he thinks it's a wise move for candidates to run against Washington D.C. and Congress in particular. With Congress' approval rating at only 18 percent, this is probably good advice.

But what does that mean for Minnesota's incumbent Republican congressmen and woman? Cole thinks Republican Reps. Michele Bachmann and John Kline have an excellent chance of getting re-elected. Erik Paulsen -- running for Rep. Jim Ramstad's open seat in the 3rd District -- is also a strong candidate from Cole's perspective. But then again, it's part of his role as chair to be optimistic.
