Binkowski on national sales tax

Tom Scheck sends along audio of John Binkowski’s news conference today in which he said he wants to abolish the IRS and replace the federal income tax with a 23 percent national sales tax.

  • Like all simple solutions to complex problem, it’s a bad one. The poor would end up paying a much higher percentage of their income to support the government than would the rich.

How about we instead abolish the IRS and institute a graduated flat tax, starting at -5% for the abject poor and going up to 50% for billionaires?

Another oversimplified non-starter solution, but one that will offend the wealthy instead of the poor.
